Another day, another HTC app added to Google Play.
HTC has added its video player app to the digital shelves of the Google Play Store. The app, officially titled “HTC Service — Video Player,” does exactly what you’d think it would, letting you play streaming video and locally stored content using “powerful decoding capabilities.”
Also included are gesture controls, like performing a two-finger side-to-side swipe to fast-forward or rewind; the ability to capture still images from a video; trimming video clips without losing quality; and support for several formats.
As you might expect, the HTC Service — Video Player app is only compatible with certain devices. The details also note that the app requires Android 5.0 and higher.
HTC has been sticking many of its custom Android apps into Google Play lately, which will allow it to update those apps whenever it wants rather than waiting for a full-on phone software update. Some users have complained that the app currently lacks support for some formats, like .mkv, but that could easily change now that HTC has added the app to the Play Store.
