Last week, rumors suggested that Microsoft had acquired popular Android and iOS app Sunrise Calendar. The folks at Microsoft didn’t have anything to say about the reports at the time, but today they’re finally coming clean.
Microsoft has confirmed that it’s acquired Sunrise in a video posted to its official YouTube channel that's since been made private. Neither Microsoft nor Sunrise are talking numbers, but the rumor mill has suggested that Microsoft dropped around $100 million for the popular calendar app.
As for what happens next, well, history suggests that we may not see a whole lot change. When Microsoft acquired popular email app Acompli in late 2014, it eventually re-released the app under the Outlook name on both Android and iOS. Whether or not Sunrise will get a new name as well remains to be seen, but if you’re a Sunrise fan, I wouldn’t fret too much about your beloved calendar app going away.
