The Samsung Galaxy Alpha earned a lot of praise when it launched earlier in 2014 thanks to its metal-clad design and respectable feature set, but despite that, a new report claims that the Alpha’s life is going to come to an early end.
Korean site ETNews says that Samsung plans to discontinue the Galaxy Alpha once the inventory of its materials is depleted. The Galaxy A5 will take its place in Korea in 2015 in an effort to “take the bull by the horns” and offer lower-priced phones. The Galaxy A5 features a metal trim similar to the Galaxy Alpha but has slightly lower-end specs that allow it to come in at a price of KRW400,000 (around $363 USD).
While it’s not exactly a barnburner in terms of specs, the Galaxy Alpha is a good smartphone that offers a quality build, nice features, and a smaller size that’s one-handable for many. Samsung’s mobile division has had some rough quarters lately in terms of finances, and so the company may be facing pressure to offer more affordable smartphones to combat its drooping earnings.
