We’ve seen Microsoft and Nokia offer some interesting ways to quickly access information or launch apps on Lumia Windows Phone devices, including with Glance Screen and dedicated camera button on many phones. Now Microsoft is back with a new app that lets you control your device without actually touching its screen.
Gestures Beta is a new Windows Phone app that aims you to easily control the phone call functionality of your Windows Phone device. At launch, the app supports four gestures: you can answer a call by picking your phone up and putting it to your ear, mute the mic during a call by placing the phone face down on a flat surface, turn on speakerphone by placing the phone on its back on a flat surface and silence the ringer by laying the phone face down while not in a call.
The Gestures Beta app is now available to Lumia Windows Phone devices. However, Microsoft notes that the Lumia 530, Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 do have “limited functionality.” It’s also worth noting that you can turn individual gestures on and off as you’d like. We’ve definitely seen features similar to those in Gestures Beta, but this still looks like a nice little app for Lumia Windows Phone users to try out. And if you’re not a heavy phone user, the app could still be worth a download, because I’m sure that Microsoft will continue to tweak it and add gestures in the future.
