One of the big trends in mobile recently has been the race for the thinnest smartphone, with manufacturers constantly one-upping each other with thinner and thinner handsets. Today Vivo revealed its own entrant into the svelte smartphone battle.
The Vivo X5 Max measures just 4.75mm thick, which was achieved in part thanks to a screen that is 1.36mm thick. Packed inside of the Vivo X5 Max’s super-thin body is a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX214 sensor, 5-megapixel front facing camera, Hi-Fi 2.0 speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone is powered by Android 4.4.4 running beneath Vivo’s custom Funtouch OS 2.0 user interface.
Vivo’s crazy-thin phone will launch on December 22 for 2,998 CNY, or approximately $485.57 USD. That’s not a bad price for the specs that you’re getting with the X5 Max, especially if its 4.75mm-thick body appeals to you. What will be interesting is seeing how the phone’s thinness, high-res display and Snapdragon 615 core impact battery life.
What do you think of the Vivo X5 Max? Does it appeal to you or is it simply too thin?
