The recent arrival of the Nexus 9 marked HTC’s return to the tablet game that it’d been out of for a couple of years.
HTC CFO Chang Chia-lin revealed during a recent earnings call that HTC will launch its own tablets in 2015. No details on the slates were given. However, HTC North Asia President Jack Tong said at a Taiwan press event that his company won’t be releasing any low cost tablets that are priced at NT$5,000 ($163 USD). “It’s not a profitable market,” Tong explained.
HTC has never been a huge player in the tablet arena, having only released a couple of slates before the Nexus 9. The Nexus 9 and HTC’s smartphones have been earning a lot of praise for their designs, though, and so I think that there’s a lot of interest in seeing what HTC could do with its own new tablet hardware.
