Google has been making over many of its Android apps ahead of the launch of version 5.0, Lollipop, but it looks like Gmail may get more than a facelift with its next big update.
A report from Android Police shows that the Gmail 5.0 update will bring with it a visual makeover with round avatars, a clean Compose screen and a Material Design look. Perhaps more interesting, though, is that Gmail will support non-Gmail accounts. The promo video for the update shows support for Yahoo and Outlook accounts, allowing the user to jump into the app’s slide-out menu and then tap different avatars at the top of the screen to access the different accounts.
It’s not clear which non-Gmail services, outside of Yahoo and Outlook, that the Gmail 5.0 update will support. Those are two pretty big services, though, and I’m betting that a lot of Android users will appreciate being able to access their non-Gmail accounts without having to install separate apps.
Do you have non-Gmail accounts or are you all Gmail, all the time?
