Facebook has released a number of mobile apps to date, including its main Facebook app, Messenger, Paper and Slingshot. Now it appears that another FB app may be in the works, but this one’s a bit different than you might expect.
Sources speaking to The New York Times say that Facebook is working on a standalone app that’ll allow users to go by pseudonyms when discussing topics with others rather than using their real name. It’s not clear if this anonymous chat app will allow for sharing of pictures or what other features it might offer.
Facebook has caught a lot of flak in the past regarding its privacy policies and real name requirements, so it’s interesting to hear that the company may be prepping an app meant for anonymous online communication. Whether or not the app will become popular or be fun to use remains to be seen — after all, I’m sure most of us know that anonymous Internet communication can bring out the worst in some folks — but my interest is definitely piqued.
