Back in the early days of smartphone use, most carriers offered truly unlimited data, letting smartphone owners surf and download to their heart’s content. That’s not really the case anymore, with most plans offering tiered or throttled data buckets. It’s unlikely that that’ll change any time soon, but a new promo from AT&T could make life easier for heavy data users on tiered rate plans.
Starting tomorrow, September 28, AT&T will double the data allotments of many of its Mobile Share Plans. For example, the 15GB plan will be doubled to 30GB, the 20GB plan will double to 40GB and so on. The promo will run through October 31, but if you enroll before the deadline, you’ll be able to keep your doubled data allotment for as long as you’d like. Here’s how the pricing and plans break down:
Each plan includes a $15 per month per line access fee for for AT&T Next or no contract users, while folks on a 2-year commitment will need to pony up $40 per month. It’s also worth noting that each plan includes unlimited talk and text.
If you’re a heavy data user that’s no longer on an unlimited plan, these double data Mobile Share data plans could be worth a look. You’ll have to pay a bit extra if you get your phones with a 2-year commitment, but you can also go the AT&T Next route and get the cheaper per month line access fee without having to shell out hundreds of bucks for a no-contract phone.
What do you think of AT&T’s new double data promo? Are any of you going to sign up for it?
