We’re still waiting for the first Android Auto-powered vehicles to roll off the assembly lines and into our driveways, but Google has made that wait a bit easier by giving us another glimpse at Android Auto’s user interface.

The screenshots posted by Google show off Android Auto’s music player UI, showing the different ways that you can play your tunes in the car and how the interface adapts to its environment. Here’s a quick rundown on what is included:

• Primary App UI: Google says that developers can customize their app’s UI to shown their own icons, app name and even background images. In the above example, we can see Google Play Music showing album art.

• Launcher: As you might expect, this feature shows all of the compatible apps installed on your Android device. In the example above, all of the user’s media apps are shown in a scrollable list.

• User Actions: The main app UI shows four actions in the action bar, four auxiliary actions in its overflow bar and a Return action.

• Drawer Transitions: The drawer appears in the center and shows the media containers and files available from your selected service. These drawers can include custom icons for list items.

• Day and Night Transitions: All of the included UIs support different color schemes for day and night. The platform determines whether it’s currently day or nighttime and and adjusts the UI accordingly.

Google also goes into detail on the different aspects of an Android Auto media player’s UI that can be customized, including the app logo and name, background images, theme colors and custom actions.

Google’s goal with Android Auto is to offer software that provides a connected and informative experience while being glanceable and simple. So far it looks like it’s doing that well, with Android Auto providing big images and buttons that you can just look quickly at and understand what’s going on.

Google has said that the first Android Auto vehicles will roll out by the end of 2014. Are you excited for Android Auto?
