Earlier this week, some folks that preordered the new Moto X began receiving notifications that their device had shipped. Not everyone has been so lucky, though.
Motorola has said that it’s getting “a large number of orders causing some delays” for the new Moto X. A report from Droid-Life goes on to note that Motorola is contacting some customers to say that their order won’t ship for another two weeks, even though the order was placed within minutes of preorders opening up. To make up the delay, Moto is sending promo codes that are good for a $349 Moto X, $149 Moto G 8GB or $159 Moto G 16GB.
Unfortunately, that’s not the end of the problems. Some folks that ordered a 32GB Moto X are being told that the configuration that they chose is “backordered and unavailable for selection at this time.” Motorola then asks that they choose a 16GB model instead. Finally, some Moto Maker orders that included a white front are being backordered up to four weeks.
So yeah, it looks like the launch of the new Moto X is off to a bumpy start. While it wouldn’t be a surprise to hear that some orders are being delayed due to the popularity of a highly-anticipated new phone, it seems strange that units bought right when preorders went live are being backordered. Motorola hasn’t explained exactly what’s causing all these delays, but hopefully Moto can get things sorted out quickly or risk losing sales to other new, high-end smartphones that are coming to market.
Did you order a new Moto X? If so, did you get a shipment notification or was your device backordered?
