When Motorola announced the new Moto X earlier this month, it said that its new flagship would be sold in AT&T and Verizon-flavored variants as well as an unlocked version. We already know that the unlocked model will cost $499.99, and now it’s been revealed that its unlocked nature won’t be the only unique aspect of that Moto X.
A new report from The Verge says that the unlocked Moto X will be known as the “Moto X Pure Edition.” It’s still not clear exactly when this “pure” Moto X will go on sale, though Motorola has previously said that we’ll see it sometime in September.
The original Moto X, Moto G and Moto E all ran a version of Android that’s pretty close to Google’s stock flavor, with Motorola only adding a handful of small (and pretty useful) features on top. It looks like we’ll see the same from the new Moto X, though the AT&T and Verizon models will still be subject to preloaded apps and update schedules of those carriers. Meanwhile, the Pure Edition will be pure to Motorola’s vision of how the new Moto X should be.
