Earlier today I told you about how the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus preorders went overnight, with most iPhone 6 Plus models facing heavy backorders. Now Apple has chimed in with an official statement on the matter.
In a statement sent to Re/code, Apple described consumer response to the new iPhone models as “incredible,” going on to reveal that it sold “a record number of preorders overnight.” Meanwhile, AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said that demand for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are higher than the big blue carrier has seen in the previous two years.
Unsurprisingly, there’s no official word on how many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models have been sold, and it’s unlikely that Apple will ever reveal those specific stats. Previous rumor have suggested that the iPhone 6 Plus is in short supply, which is a claim that’s seemingly supported by the fact that nearly all models of the device are now backordered for several weeks. Folks that want the smaller (but still larger) iPhone 6 may still be able to get lucky and get a unit on or shortly after launch day.
