With new devices like the iPhone 6, Galaxy Note 4 and Xperia Z3 on the horizon, many folks will be trading in their existing smartphone to upgrade to the new hotness. Many services and carriers offer trade-in services to ease that process, and today T-Mobile announced a new effort to get you to trade your devices in to it.
T-Mobile says that starting on September 17, it plans to track the trade-in market every day to ensure that it’s got the best trade-in offers of any of the four major U.S. carriers. If AT&T, Sprint or Verizon offer you a better trade-in value for your device than T-Mobile, then Magenta will give you the difference along with an additional $50, both in the form of a bill credit that’ll be applied in two to three bill cycles.
To take advantage of this offer, you need to call T-Mobile or hit up its website within seven days of trading your device in at a T-Mo store, then tell the big magenta operator where and when you got a better offer along with how much that deal was for. The promo will run for a “limited time.”
Trading your smartphone in to a carrier or retailer isn’t likely to net you as much cash as you’d get by selling on Craigslist or eBay, but the trade-off is that dealing with a retailer or carrier is often a much easier experience. For folks that’d rather go this route, T-Mo’s offer may be worth looking into if you’re planning on selling that slab in your pocket for a shiny new piece of kit in the coming months.
What do you do with your old phone when it comes time to upgrade to a new model?
