HTC today added its own hardware to the IFA 2014 mix with the Desire 820.
The HTC Desire 820 continues the relatively new trend of selfie-centric smartphones, packing an 8-megapixel front-facing camera as well as software tweaks like the skin-smoothing Live Makeup and Photo Booth for capturing several photos in a single image. Around back, HTC has included a 13-megapixel BSI sensor and f/2.2 aperture.
Another highlight feature of the Desire 820 is its processor. At the heart of the 820 lives a 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor that includes 64-bit support (which isn’t even baked into Android yet) as well as a big.LITTLE architecture that can use four 1.5GHz cores for heavier tasks and four 1GHz cores for lighter duties.
When it comes to the rest of the Desire 820’s spec sheet, well, we’re looking at a fairly mid-range device. It’s got 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, an embedded 2600mAh battery and a 5.5-inch 720p display. HTC also saw fit to throw in its well-know BoomSound front-facing speakers.
HTC isn’t quite ready to talk exact availability or pricing for the Desire 820. Considering that it’s mostly a mid-range device, I wouldn’t expect that it’ll be too hard on buyers’ wallets. If you’re not a huge spec hound and just want to snap the perfect self-portrait, though, the Desire 820 could be worth keeping an eye on.
