Sprint’s Q1 FY14 results isn’t the only big news that the big yellow carrier announced today, as it also revealed a major new plan offering for its Virgin Mobile prepaid brand.
Starting Saturday, August 9, Virgin Mobile Custom will be available for prepaid consumers at Walmart stores. Including support for up to 5 lines, VM Custom allows consumers to purchase a designated phone and activate it on the Base plan that includes 20 texts and 20 minutes. You can add unlimited texting to that plan for $10 or unlimited voice for $18. There’s also a plan option that includes unlimited talk and text for $35.
In addition to these text and voice offerings, customers can select special add-ons that offer unlimited access to services like Facebook or Pandora. These offerings can be added on a recurring or non-recurring basis.
Once a customer enrolls in Virgin Mobile Custom, he or she can tweak their plan any time of the month, even on a daily basis. The plans can be altered directly from a user’s device, and changes are reflected instantly.
Virgin Mobile Custom will be supported on three devices at launch. Those include the ZTE Emblem for $79.88, the LG pulse for $99.88 and the LG Unify for $129.88.
The account holder on a Virgin Mobile Custom plan will have the option of downloading a Custom Control app from the App Store or Google Play on September 1. This app will allow the account owner to manage the Custom plan’s settings and view the plan usage.
UPDATE: More details on Virgin Mobile Custom have been shared by the Wall Street Journal. The base plan starts at $6.98 per month and includes 20 minutes and 20 texts. Customers can add unlimited access to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest for $5 each or $15 for all four. Unlimited access to a music app of the customer’s choice can also be added for $5 per month.
