Device payment installment plans are one of the newer trends in mobile, allowing consumers can get a new phone or tablet and spread the full cost of the device out over a varying amount of months. All four major U.S. carriers offer their own variation of this payment method, and soon some of them may gain support from Apple.

Sources speaking to 9to5Mac claim that in late August, several Apple Stores will begin supporting AT&T Next, T-Mobile JUMP and Verizon Edge. Support for these programs are expected to roll out to other Apple Stores throughout the U.S. as Apple tests out the program and ensures that it works smoothly.

Apple Stores currently sell devices either with a two-year commitment or at full retail pricing. It makes sense that Apple would want to add support for these new installment payment methods so that it doesn’t miss out on sales, especially since many consumers like to go to Apple’s stores to buy products or just look around and potentially pick up a new toy. Plus, as 9to5Mac notes, it makes sense for Apple to offer consumers every purchase method possible with the impending launch of the iPhone 6.
