BlackBerry kicked off a beta test of BBM for Windows Phone last week, allowing 10,000 users to try out the messaging app before its public launch. BlackBerry says that all of the test slots were filled within 24 hours, which is kind of a bummer for folks that weren’t quick on the sign-up draw. Luckily for them, the official app launch is coming soon.
Over on the official Inside BlackBerry blog, BlackBerry has revealed that BBM for Windows Phone will arrive “next week.” That’s as precise as the company got, but it’s also the most concrete BBM for Windows Phone launch window that we’ve gotten so far.
Just as I noted when the BBM for Windows Phone beta was first announced, the app will feature all of the same features as the Android and iOS apps. That includes a simplified sign up process, group chats, feed support and more. One thing that’ll be special to the Windows Phone apps is its user interface, which will be similar to the standard Windows Phone UI rather than featuring a BlackBerry 10-like design.
