It’s earnings season once again, and this time around we’ve got Verizon kicking things off with its second quarter 2014 results.
Verizon today revealed the results of Verizon Wireless’s Q2 2014. The big red carrier added 1.4 million net connections during the second quarter, all of which were of the postpaid variety. That brought Verizon’s total number of connections to 104.6 million at the end of Q2, a figure that includes 98.6 million postpaid connections.
Breaking things down a bit further, Verizon had 35.2 million postpaid accounts at the end of Q2. The carrier reports that it had an average of 2.80 connections per account.
On the hardware side of things, Verizon saw 304,000 postpaid phone additions during the quarter as well as 1.15 million postpaid tablets. Despite its relatively small number of phone adds, Verizon’s total postpaid phone base grew from 72 percent in Q1 to “nearly” 75 percent in Q2.
Finally, Verizon reports that its total revenues for Q2 2014 finished at $21.5 billion, up 7.5 percent from Q2 2013.
While Verizon’s postpaid phone adds for Q2 weren’t particularly great, it managed to offset that performance with some strong tablet adds that VZW says is a company record. Looking ahead, Verizon expects to see strong customer growth in the third quarter thanks to unnamed “dynamic devices,” which is likely a reference to Apple’s next iPhone.
