Last year Motorola introduced the Motorola Skip, a small Bluetooth accessory that could be clipped onto your clothes and be used to unlock your Moto X without entering a PIN. Now Motorola has a second unlocking accessory for users, but rather than attaching this one to your clothes, you attach it to your skin.
Motorola today detailed a new “digital tattoo” that’s the result of a collaboration between Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects Group and VivaLnk Inc. The tattoo is approximately the size of a nickel and made of an extremely thin material.
Once you attach the tattoo to your skin, you can unlock your Moto X over NFC by simply tapping the device to your skin. The tattoo is waterproof, meaning that it can be worn while showering, swimming and sweating, and each one is expected to last around five days.
Motorola says that people unlock their handsets around 39 times per day. While unlocking a phone may not seem like it takes that much effort, accessories like the Motorola Skip and this digital tattoo help to speed up the unlock process even further and doesn’t require that the wearer memorize a pattern or PIN.
Motorola and VivaLnk’s digital tattoos can be purchased directly from the VivaLnk website at a price of $10 for a pack of 10.
