Not one, not two, but three. ZTE today took the wraps off of three new smartphones, all members of its Nubia family of Android smartphones.
First up is the flagship member of the group, the Nubia Z7. The Z7 boasts a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 display on its face, meaning that we’ve got another Quad HD smartphone entering the mobile fray. ZTE says that the display is energy efficient thanks to features like its Display RAM tech that adjusts the backlight level and can differentiate between dynamic and static content on the screen.
The Nubia Z7’s also got a 5-megapixel camera on its face and a 13-megapixel sensor on its backside that’s equipped with optical image stabilization. Inside of the Nubia Z7’s frame lives a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, dual-SIM support, 4G LTE connectivity and a 3000mAh battery that’s powering it all. ZTE has preloaded the Nubia Z7 with Android 4.4 KitKat and its own custom Nubia 2.0 user interface.
Next up is the Nubia Z7 Max, and while its name suggests that it’s a bigger version of the Z7, that’s actually not the case. The Nubia Z7 Max features a lower-res 5.5-inch 1080p display and 2GB of RAM. It includes the Nubia Z7’s 13-megapixel shooter, but doesn’t offer OIS. Outside of those few changes, the Z7 Max is identical to its Z7 sibling.
Finally, we come to the Nubia Z7 Mini. Continuing with the trend of features that don’t line up with these devices’ names, the Nubia Z7 Mini is actually taller than the Z7 and Z7 Max. Its display is smaller, though, measuring in at 5 inches in size with a 1080p resolution. Like the Z7 Max, the Z7 Mini features 2GB of RAM and 13-megapixel shooter sans OIS. It’s also packing 16GB of storage and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
Pricing for the trio of devices is CNY 3,450 ($556 USD) for the flagship Nubia Z7, CNY 2,000 ($322 USD) for the Z7 Max and CNY ($242 USD) for the Z7 Mini. All three devices look like respectable offerings; the Nubia Z7 offers specs that should allow it to compete with other flagship Androids on the market, and the Nubia Z7 Mini seems like a pretty good deal with a 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 and $242 price tag.
There’s no word on when or if we’ll see any of these devices outside of China. ZTE launched its Nubia Z5 in the U.S. late last year, so there’s a chance that we could eventually see one of these Nubia Z7s make their way Stateside. Stay tuned.
