If you’re the type of person that takes selfies with any kind of regularity, then sit down right over there, because Sony would like to show you something.
Sony today introduced the Xperia C3, a new Android smartphone that it says is “the world’s best selfie smartphone.” In order to back up that claim, the C3 boasts a PROselfie cam with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with wide-angle lens and a soft LED flash. Sony has also included software tweaks to further improve your selfies, like a Superior Auto mode that adjusts to the lighting and scene to help you up your self-portrait game.
Also on the Xperia C3’s face is a 5.5-inch 1280x720 display. Around back lives an 8-megapixel shooter that includes the same Superior Auto mode as its front-facing counterpart. Sandwich in-between those parts is a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a 2500mAh battery.
Sony says that the Android 4.4-powered Xperia C3 will launch globally, with a rollout starting in China in August 2014. The Xperia C3 will be offered in black, white and mint color options.
We’ve certainly seen phones with beefy front-facing cameras in the past, but the Xperia C3’s combination of an LED flash, wide-angle lens and high-megapixel count could make it one of the better selfie phones on the market. And while the rest of the C3’s spec sheet won’t blow anyone’s hair back, it should offer enough performance to capturing photos of yourself and all of your other everyday tasks.
