Today Facebook officially introduced Slingshot, its ephemeral messaging competitor to Snapchat. It looks like Snapchat isn’t going to let Facebook hog the new spotlight, though, as Snapchat has announced a new feature for its apps.
Dubbed “Our Story,” this new feature is similar to regular Stories feature that launched last year and allows users to string Snaps together to create a narrative. Our Story takes that a step further by allowing Snapchat users located in the same area to contribute their Snaps to one Story.
To give an example of how Our Story works, Snapchat is launching it at the Electric Daisy Carnival that’s taking place this weekend. Anyone attending the event can add a snap to “Our EDC Story” to contribute. Those of you that aren’t going to the event can still view the Snaps by adding “EDCLive” on Snapchat.
While Our Story may not be quite as major a new feature as the Chat and video calling support that Snapchat added earlier this year, it’s still worth taking note of because it enables Snapchat users that are all at a single event to add their own point of view to a single Snap.
Snapchat notes that Our Story is already included with the app that’s on users’ devices, so you don’t need to update to check it out. To help you get an idea of how the feature works, you can check out Snapchat’s promo video below.
