Today Microsoft held its “small gathering” in New York City to talk about its Surface line of products. Just what did the Redmond firm have to say? Read on to find out.
Microsoft today took the wraps off of the Surface Pro 3, the latest model in its family of Windows-powered tablets. Dubbed by Microsoft as “the tablet that can replace your laptop,” the Surface Pro 3 features a 12-inch 2160x1440 display, up from the 10.6-inch screen found on previous Surface models. The aspect ratio of the Surface Pro 3’s screen is 3:2, while the Surface Pro 2’s was 16:9.
As for its accessories, Microsoft has created a new Type Cover that it says has a better keyboard and larger trackpad than previous models. Microsoft has also enabled the Type Cover to magnetically stick itself to the bottom of the Surface Pro 3’s face to make the pair more stable while using it on your lap.
Microsoft also showed off a new dock for the Surface Pro 3 as well as a new Surface Pen with a polished aluminum finish. You can find a shot of the silver pen in the gallery below.
So when can you buy one? Microsoft will begin accepting pre-orders for the Surface Pro 3 tomorrow, May 21, at 12:01 a.m. EDT. The company says that the Core i5-powered Surface Pro 3 will be available in stores in the U.S. and Canada on June 20. By the end of August, the new device will be available in 26 other markets, including Australia, China, Japan, France, Taiwan and the U.K.
As for pricing, there are quite a few Surface Pro 3 configurations to choose from. The base Core i3 model starts at $799, and the top-end unit features a Core i7 chip and a $1949 price tag. Here’s the complete price list, including accessories:
