The rumor mill has been hinting that the iPhone 6 will sport a 4.7-inch display for quite a while, but so far we’ve yet to see any images of such a part. That may have changed today, though, as a photo of what’s said to be the front panel of Apple’s next iPhone has made its way online.
Originally posted to Chinese social networking service Weibo, the photo claims to show a white front panel of an iPhone 6 alongside an iPhone 5s. The iPhone 6 part is noticeably larger, and while there’s no exact size included with the leak, it looks like it could be 4.7 inches in size. The front panel also includes cutouts for an earpiece, camera, light sensor and home button in the same layout as the iPhone 5s.
The first several generations of iPhone featured screens that were 3.5 inches in size, and then Apple moved to a 4-inch screen with the 2012 debut of the iPhone 5. However, as the majority of other smartphones feature screens that measure anywhere between 4.7 and 6.4 inches in size, many feel that the iPhone’s 4-inch display is too small for everyday use. Recent earnings reports have shown that the iPhone is still doing well with consumers, but Apple could try a larger model this year in an attempt to boost sales even further.
This front panel isn’t the only alleged iPhone 6 part that’s leaked today. An image shared by French site NowhereElse claims to show batteries for the next-generation iPhone resting in a production tray. Details on these parts are fairly light and there’s no concrete evidence to show that they will indeed be placed inside an Apple device, but they do sport a rectangular shape similar to the batteries used in previous iPhone models.
UPDATE: A second image of the larger iPhone 6 front panel has leaked. The image compares the part to an iPhone 5/5s just like the first photo leak, but this time we’re giving a straight-on look at the alleged iPhone 6 part. Check out the photo below.
