Late last year, Google launched an official Google Play Music app for iPhone, giving owners of Apple’s smartphone access to both their music locker and Google Play Music All Access. Now it looks like Google is turning its attention to the iPad, as screenshots and videos that claim to shown Google Play Music for iPad have leaked.

9to5Mac has been told that a version of Google Play Music for the iPad is “getting close” to launch, and the site has been given screenshots and videos that purportedly show an development build of the app in action. The app looks similar to the iPhone version, showing a grid of album art, slide-out navigation menu and a Now Playing screen that shows large album art. The Now Playing screen can be used in either portrait or landscape mode.

While the iPhone version of Google Play Music will work on the iPad, you have to use it as a blown-up iPhone app rather than a full-on iPad version. Most other music streaming services have iPad-friendly apps, though, and so it makes sense that Google would want to launch an iPad version of Play Music to help it better compete against the likes of Spotify and Rdio. Plus, I’m sure iPad owners will appreciate having a Google Play Music app that takes advantage of their slate’s larger display.
