Earlier this month, the Republic Wireless version of the Moto X was added to Motorola’s Moto Maker customization tool. Now Republic has some more big news to share, announcing that its customers can now reactivate devices.
The new reactivation functionality allows Republic Wireless customers to give or sell their old phone to another person who can then turn around and reactivate it with Republic service. The Motorola Defy XT can be reactivated online using Republic’s website, while the Moto X, Moto G and all future devices can be reactivated simply by turning it on and following the on-screen prompts. The LG Optimus does not support reactivation.
Reactivation may not sound like a big deal to most wireless users, but it’s actually a pretty major feature for Republic Wireless. The launch of reactivation functionality means that Republic customers with old phones lying around can now actually do something with those devices. It’s also good news for Republic because it means that existing customers could get new folks onto Republic by giving them an old unit.
