How would you like some piping hot U.S. Cellular 4G LTE coverage to go along with those new rate plans that the carrier announced yesterday? Well that’s precisely what you’ll be getting, because USCC has revealed plans to significantly expand its LTE network in 2014.
U.S. Cellular says it will be adding 4G LTE service to 1,200 cell sites and expanding existing LTE coverage in 13 states this year. USCC says that this rollout will add “vast” LTE coverage to Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and North Carolina and that it’ll add additional service to parts of Iowa, Illinois, Maine, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. Areas that’ll be gaining new coverage include Oklahoma City, Emporia, Kan., and parts of Door County, Wis.
Once 2014 is done, U.S. Cellular says that more than 93 percent of its customers will have access to 4G LTE service.
U.S. Cellular has steadily been expanding its LTE footprint ever since it first launched the service in early 2012, and it’s good to hear that by the time this year wraps up, more than 90 percent of USCC subscribers will have LTE access. This news is especially exciting when you remember that U.S. Cellular will soon launch the Samsung Galaxy S5. After all, who would want their shiny new flagship Android smartphone to be stuck on a 3G service?
