Samsung took the wraps off of three new Gear-branded wearables at MWC back in February, but the Gear Fit stood out among the trio thanks to its curved AMOLED display. The Fit’s display could also be a bit of an annoyance, though, because anything that appeared on that screen was shown horizontally, which could difficult to read while being worn on a wrist. Thankfully, Samsung appears to have taken steps to address the issue.
Samsung has issued an update to the Gear Fit that enables the device to display text vertically, making anything on the screen much easier to read while the device is being worn. As you can see in the image above, the time and a calendar appointment are stacked on top of one another. A brief video showing the vertically-oriented display in action is available below.
An update to enable vertical orientation may not sound like a big deal, but being able to display text on the Gear Fit’s screen vertically rather than horizontally can greatly increase the wearable’s usability. Best of all is that news of this update has come along just days before the Gear Fit is set to hit store shelves, so hopefully early adopters can get hold of the update quickly so that they don’t become frustrated trying to read the time horizontally several times throughout the day.
