Verizon HTC One max now receiving its Android 4.4.2 KitKat update

Right on schedule, the Verizon version of the HTC One max has started to receive its Android 4.4.2 update.

HTC executive Mo Versi announced last week that Verizon’s One max would begin getting its update to Android 4.4.2 on Monday afternoon, and now owners of the device are reporting that they are indeed getting treated to a fresh helping of KitKat. The update bumps the Verizon-branded One max up to software version 2.16.605.2 and includes the following changes:

LOCATION SETTINGS

• Redesigned for ease of use and battery conservation. 
• Offers a master switch that turns all location settings on or off
• Lists which apps are using location services 
• Shows estimated battery use of each app
• New setting enables you to choose between these location profiles
  • High accuracy (most battery use)
  • Battery saving (least battery use)
  • Device sensors (GPS only)

ISSUES HAVE BEEN RESOLVED:

• Device Management no longer runs during OTA download
• Bluetooth® Car Kit for 2012 BMW X5 now works properly
• Verizon app directed SMS now works properly
• Copy function icon on top right of screen is operational 
• Notification light indicates pending messages, emails and missed calls
• Device will not re-download update if OTA install is deferred 

IMPROVEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE:

• Power management requirements have been updated
• OTA download via Wi-Fi is now supported 

SERVICES ARE NOW PRE-LOADED:

• Verizon Cloud
• Verizon Location Agent
• Verizon Support and Protect (v2.0.0)

All of those goodies come in addition to getting bumped up to the latest version of Android, which is pretty exciting all on its own. We may have already known that this update was coming today, but it’s still good to see HTC and Verizon meet their expected rollout window and get Android 4.4.2 onto the VZW One max.

If you’re rocking a Verizon One max and haven’t yet gotten this update, head on in to Settings > Software update > Check new to see if you can manually pull some KitKat goodness from the sky.
