Details of Apple’s iOS 8 update have slowly been trickling out in the early months of 2014, suggesting that the Cupertino firm is prepping a new Healthbook app as well as some major Maps improvements. Today the leaky iOS 8 spigot continues to flow, giving us a few more details about the next major version of Apple’s mobile operating system.
According to carrier sources speaking to 9to5Mac, Apple is considering adding Voice over LTE (VoLTE) support to iOS 8 and the next iPhone. Because Apple also needs carrier support for this feature, though, it’s said that Apple may delay VoLTE support if there aren’t enough operators that support the feature in a timely manner.
Apple is also said to be focusing on improving the performance of iOS in the next major update. In addition to making the software quicker and easier to navigate, today’s report claims that Apple would like to shorten the time that it takes to snap a photo with the next iPhone’s hardware.
Apple hasn’t made any official announcements regarding iOS 8, but it’s widely expected that the update will be introduced at WWDC 2014 in early June. We’ll have to wait until then to find out how many of these rumored features actually make the cut into iOS 8, but many of them seem reasonable enough. Apple gave iOS a major makeover last year with the launch of iOS 7, and so the company likely wants to focus on making smaller tweaks here and there throughout the OS to make it faster and easier to use.
