When Microsoft made Windows Phone 8.1 official earlier this week, it revealed a number of new features that are included with the update. Some of the bigger additions include the Action Center notification panel, Cortana the personal assistant and support for Live Tile background images. Now we’ve got one more new feature to add to the list thanks to Windows Phone developer Justin Angel.

Angel recently posted an image from Microsoft’s Build Developer Conference that reveals that Windows Phone 8.1 will support Start Screen restore. This means that users will be able to retain their Start Screen setup when switching between devices.

According to Microsoft’s presentation slide, every Live Tile will be restored and that a user’s icon and image settings will be maintained. A restored app will remain grayed out on the Start Screen until it is redownloaded from the Windows Phone Store.

While Start Screen restore may not be a headline feature like Action Center or Cortana, it is a nice little addition that will make using Windows Phone just a bit easier, especially with the arrival of Live Tile background images. After all, it can take a long time to get your Start Screen set up just the way that you like it. Having to redo that setup on a new device can be a pain, even if you remember how everything looked.
