Following a report from earlier this year that claimed that Apple is working on a new fitness app for iOS 8 dubbed "Healthbook," a purported screenshot that shows the app's icon has surfaced.
The images show a stock-looking iOS home screen setup, but on the second page of apps, we can see new icons for Healthbook, Preview, TextEdit and Tips. As I mentioned before, the Healthbook app is rumored to focus on tracking a user's activity, including steps taken and calories burned. Meanwhile, 9to5Mac claims that the Preview and TextEdit apps are intended for viewing documents stored in iCloud. There's not much known about the Tips app, but it seems likely that it's meant to help users to figure out iOS.
The same Weibo user also posted a purported screenshot of the iOS Settings app. The interface looks similar to the Settings app found in iOS 7, but the version listed is "8.0"
While nothing is official until Apple says it is, 9to5Mac claims to have been told by multiple sources that these screenshots are the real deal. I could see Apple adding a Healthbook app to iOS in order to take advantage of the recent fitness tracker craze as well as to better utilize the M7 coprocessor found in its newest iOS hardware.
Meanwhile, the Preview and TextEdit apps could be good for quickly viewing related files that are synced with iCloud. These app icons match those of their iOS counterparts, but they seem a little out of place with the flat, pastel look of iOS. Of course, it's possible that the icons could change before the apps are actually released to the public.
What new apps or features would you like to see Apple include in the next major update to iOS?
