Time to add another entry to the list of OnePlus One features.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to his company's official forums today to reveal that the upcoming OnePlus One smartphone will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p screen manufactured by Japan Display Inc. The screen includes Touch On Lens modules, which Lau says eliminate distance between the device's touch sensor and display panel while simultaneously being very resistant to shattering. Also included with the OnePlus One's display are power-saving technologies that enable the device to detect when the display is showing a static image and consume less energy.
Lau went on to tout the size of the OnePlus One itself. The exec says that OnePlus originally set out to make a phone with a 5-inch display, but after seeing the recent surge in the popularity of larger-screened devices, the firm switched to a 5.5-inch screen. OnePlus then squeezed this 5.5-inch display into the body of a phone with a 5-inch display. Lau says that in the image below, there's OnePlus One laying under the Sony Xperia Z1, which measures 5.68 x 2.90 x 0.33 inches.
The display is one of the most important features of a smartphone, since it's something that you'll be staring at quite a bit during your ownership of a device. That's why it's nice to finally get some details on the OnePlus One's display. While a 5.5-inch screen may sound a tad large to some, the fact that the OnePlus One's body is no wider than an Xperia Z1 suggests that the One may not be too difficult to wield, though the Z1 is known for having sizable bezels. The good news is that with a launch slated for the second quarter, it shouldn't be much longer before we're actually able to see how a OnePlus One feels in our hands.
