Nokia's big Mobile World Congress shindig is now less than a week away, and in order to help build some hype for its event, the Finnish firm today posted a teaser image to its official blog. Inside of a green rectangle are four arrows pointing at one another, forming a green "X" directly in the center of the image.
Recent rumors have suggested that the Android-powered Nokia X could finally make its official debut at MWC, and today's teaser image seems to support that claim. Not only is the green used by Nokia similar to the color of Google's mobile mascot, but the "X" in the center of the image seems to be a reference to the name "Nokia X," which is expected to be the official name of the handset.
The Nokia X will reportedly be an entry-level device targeted at the same emerging markets that Nokia's Asha phones are typically sold. When it comes to specs, we've heard that the Nokia X could sport a 4-inch 800x480 display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 5-megapixel camera, 512MB RAM, dual-SIM support and 4GB of internal storage that can be supplemented with a microSD card. The device is expected to be powered by a heavily-customized version of Android that will include a Nokia app store with Android apps inside.
Interestingly, a report from Re/code suggests that Nokia isn't planning to show off any new Windows Phone models alongside the X. Sources speaking to the site say that neither Nokia nor Microsoft are planning to bring any new Windows Phone hardware to Barcelona.
Instead, Microsoft will reportedly only be discussing the "broad strokes" of Windows Phone's future, while Nokia will likely take the wraps off of its Android-powered X. That's kind of a bummer for fans of Windows Phone, but it's worth noting that Microsoft is likely to show off Windows Phone 8.1 at its Build developer conference in early April, so it kind of makes sense that the Redmond company would hold off on any new product announcements until then.
