We heard a little over a month ago that Samsung is planning to introduce a new version of its Galaxy Gear smartwatch at Mobile World Congress, which officially kicks off next Monday. Today some more details of Samsung's plans have leaked, and if they turn out to be accurate, we could end up with several new smartwatches to slap onto our wrists.

According to a source speaking to The Verge, Samsung will show "multiple" Galaxy Gear devices at MWC. Details of the new devices are still light, but a previous leak suggested that at least one unit will feature a design that's "less bulky" than the original Gear as well as several new health-focused features.

A separate report from USA Today claims that Samsung is planning to announce a Galaxy Gear smartwatch running Tizen rather than Android, which powered the original Gear. The decision to switch to Tizen was reportedly made as part of an effort by Samsung to earn more revenue from its own software and services. It's worth noting that the Tizen Association recently confirmed that some new Tizen-powered devices will be on display at MWC, but there was no mention of exactly what kind of hardware will be shown.

While much of the focus of Samsung's event next week will likely be on the Galaxy S5, it'll also be interesting to see what kind of hardware that the company puts together for its next Galaxy Gear. Whether or not we see multiple Gear models or a Tizen-powered unit is still up in the air for now, but considering that Samsung is one of the biggest supporters of the Tizen platform, there's certainly a chance that it could decide to load the OS onto its smartwatch hardware.
