BlackBerry CEO John Chen teased back in December that the first BlackBerry smartphone that will be manufactured by Foxconn will be a low-cost device codenamed "Jakarta." The upcoming 'Berry had been fairly successful in avoiding the leaky spotlight in the following months, but that's changing today thanks to the appearance of product renders and a possible spec list.

The folks over at N4BB have posted what they claim are images of the BlackBerry Jakarta, which is rumored to be coming to market with the moniker "BlackBerry Z3." The device in these renders features a square design, front and rear cameras and BlackBerry's well-known red notification LED. The backside of the Jakarta/Z3 appears to have a dotted texture to it, and the side views show that the power button, volume controls and convenience key are all located on the left of the phone.

Meanwhile, a report from BBin has shared what may be the BlackBerry Jakarta/Z3's spec sheet. Reportedly included with the device is a 5-inch 960x540 touchscreen, 5-megapixel rear and 1.1-megapixel front cameras, 8GB of storage, 1.5GB of RAM, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 2650mAh battery.

The BlackBerry Jakarta/Z3 will be an entry-level 3G handset that's targeted at emerging markets, and the leaked spec list that's surfaced today certainly lines up with that description. As for when we could see this new BlackBerry make its official debut, the rumor mill claims that an MWC 2014 introduction could be in the cards for the Jakarta, which would make sense if the phone is expected to begin shipping in March or April.
