Sprint may have beaten all of the other U.S. carriers in the race to update the Samsung Galaxy S 4 to Android 4.4 KitKat, but if a new leak is to be believed, U.S. Cellular won't be far behind.
According to an image that purportedly comes from U.S. Cellular's internal systems, the USCC-flavored Galaxy S 4 will begin receiving its update to Android 4.4 this Wednesday, Feb. 19. The document explains that this update will be pushed out in stages and will require a device to have a valid Google account and be connected to Wi-Fi in order to begin the install process. It's expected that the update will hit all users 10 days after the rollout begins.
Details on the goodies contained within this update are light, but the leaked doc does say that it will remove the Daily Perks and MobiTiles apps that came preinstalled on the device. Users that want to redownload the MobiTiles app will be able to do so using the Google Play Store.
With the debut of the Galaxy S5 purportedly just one week away, it's good to see the Galaxy S 4's Android 4.4 update begin to roll out to U.S. consumers. Not only does the update bring those users up to the freshest version of Android, but it could also help them to forget that their handset will no longer be the top dog of Samsung's smartphone lineup. I just hope that now that Sprint's Galaxy S 4 KitKat update is here and U.S. Cellular's is getting close, the updates for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon's versions of the GS4 are getting close.
