Looks like an updated version of Chrome isn't the only new Google app goodness that iOS users are getting today. An official Google Play Movies & TV app is now available for download from the App Store, allowing users to watch both movies and TV shows that they purchase from Google's Play Store. The universal app weighs in at 4.9MB in size and includes Chromecast support, meaning that the app can be used to beam content acquired from the Play Store to a Chromecast-connected TV.
There are a few important details about the new Google Play Movies & TV app that are worth taking note of. First, the app only supports streaming video over Wi-Fi connections as of this writing. Second, users can't actually purchase content using the app. That means that movies and TV shows will need to be purchased by visiting the Play Store on a computer and then firing up the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to begin watching. Finally, the app lacks an offline playback option, so you'll need to seek out a Wi-Fi connection if you're out and about and want to watch your Play Store content.
Despite these limitations, it's still nice to see an official Google Play Movies & TV app arrive on iOS. Its arrival continues Google's streak of launching apps for its services on iOS, like we recently saw with the Google Play Music app, and it means that the Play Store is now a more viable option for iOS users that are on the hunt for a movie or TV show to watch. Now we just have to hope that Google addresses some of the app's shortcomings in future updates. To check the Google Play Movies & TV out for yourself, you can hit up the App Store link below.
