Apple may not be attending CES 2014, but that doesn't mean that the company can't make big announcements while the show is going on.
The Cupertino firm just revealed that consumers spent over $10 billion in the iOS App Store in 2013, with $1 billion spent and nearly 3 billion apps downloaded in December alone. According to Apple, those last two stats made December 2013 the most successful month in the App Store's history.
Originally launched in July 2008, the App Store is now home to over 1 million total applications, including 500,000 native iPad apps. These latest stats from Apple show just how important apps are to a mobile platform, and at this point it's kind of crazy to think that the original iPhone launched without an app marketplace or any official third-party apps.
