Happy 2014! PhoneDog’s Official Smartphone Rankings kicked off the new year with no surprises on the People’s Chart, as the HTC One still is the top pick among the fans. The same can’t be said for our mobile tech experts, though, as the Apple iPhone 5s claimed the number one spot for the first time in 13 weeks. With CES 2014 taking over Las Vegas this week, will any of the new smartphones that are introduced become the next big thing on the charts?
MT PLEASANT, SC – January 6, 2014 – Week 96 of PhoneDog Media's Official Smartphone Rankings™ (OSR), the gold standard for ranking the best smartphones on the market by placing votes from readers and experts in their respective charts, brings us into 2014. The HTC One continued its reign atop the People’s Chart for the 42nd consecutive week with 176 points. Things were different on the Experts Chart, though, with the Apple iPhone 5s returning to the top spot with 29 points. This movement knocked the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 down to second with a total of 28 points.
Finishing second on the People’s Choice rankings for an eighth consecutive week was the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with 63 votes. Meanwhile, the Nexus 5 and Nokia Lumia 1520 tied for third with 35 votes apiece, and the LG G2 rounded out the top 5 with 30 votes.
After its recent fall from the experts' list, the HTC One got some love in the form of 19 total points, which was enough for it to move back into the top 5. The Nexus 5 managed to earn itself a tie on the Experts' Chart as well, grabbing a total of 19 points, and the Moto X took fifth place with 18 votes.
“With all eyes from the tech world on CES 2014, we look forward to the arrival of some bright new smartphones that will add diversity to the OSR in the coming weeks.” said Rebecca Atwood, Vice President of PhoneDog Media.
