Verizon HTC One owners know the definition of the word "wait" pretty well. Not only was Verizon the last carrier of the U.S. big four to launch the HTC One, kicking off sales four months after the other operators, but there was also a two month waiting period between Verizon's announcement of its One variant and the device's arrival on store shelves. Now it looks like Verizon HTC One owners are going to have to wait again, as the device's update to Android 4.3 has hit a bit of a delay.
HTC president Jason Mackenzie revealed tonight that the Verizon HTC One's update to Android 4.3, which was originally expected to arrive before the end of October, has been delayed and will now take around another month to begin rolling out. Mackenzie explains that HTC must put together a new version of the software and then retest it with Verizon. No other details of the delay have been given, with Mackenzie simply saying that the situation is "more complicated than can be explained in a tweet."
Tonight's news is pretty disappointing for owners of the Verizon-flavored HTC One, not only because of the lengthy period of time that the device took to get to market but also because the AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile One variants have already been updated to Android 4.3. As Mackenzie points out, though, delays like these happen, and this time it wound up happening to the Verizon One. The upside here is that at least Mackenzie and HTC are being transparent about the update's progress rather than remaining silent and keeping users in the dark. Stay tuned for more information on the update as it becomes available.
