Heads up, Google Glass Explorers, because it's time for your monthly software update. Google announced today that the XE10 update for its Glass headwear is starting to make its way to users, and while the changelog isn't quite as long as past updates, there are a couple of major changes that Explorers will likely be pretty jazzed about.
According to Google's XE10 release notes, the new update enables transit directions for Glass owners that have their device paired to an Android phone with the MyGlass app. Selecting the transit option while searching for directions will bring up information for trains, buses, subways and more, complete with step-by-step instructions.
In addition to transit directions, the XE10 update brings with it the ability to click on links in tweets, texts, emails and other forms of communication. Users simply need to tap on the card with the link that they'd like to visit and then select "View site." The final enhancement included with XE10 update is the inclusion of user profile photos that will be displayed in the background when sending a message or making a comment.
Google has done a nice job of keeping its monthly Glass software updates going and packing in new features that improve its experimental headwear. As I said before, the changelog for this new XE10 update isn't huge, but the addition of transit directions to Google Glass is big for city dwellers. The ability to click on the links in notifications is another big feature that ought to improve the usability of Glass.
