Hot on the heels of the emergence of some leaked photos that claimed to show Apple's upcoming iPad 5 in space gray, two new leaks have surfaced that purportedly reveal two color options for the iPad mini refresh that's expected to come later this year.
First up, Chinese site Zol.com.cn has shared two images of what is said to be a gold version of the iPad mini 2, complete with a champagne rear shell that's similar to the golden iPhone 5s. That gold color isn't the only thing that this iPad mini 2 borrows from its smaller sibling, though, as a second image shows that the shrunken tablet's also got a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on its Home button.
A second set of iPad mini 2 images has been posted today by prolific leaker Sonny Dickson. These shots purportedly show the shell of a smaller iPad in space gray, the new color that's taken the place of last year's black and slate combination. Outside of the fresh hue, this shell looks fairly similar to the back of the iPad mini that's currently available, including rounded corners and a pair of speaker cutouts on either side of a Lightning port.
In addition to posting photos of a space gray iPad mini 2 shell, Dickson has sent out tweets claiming that Apple's next shrunken tablet will be available in the same silver, gold and space gray colors as the iPhone 5s and that it will indeed feature the same Touch ID sensor as the new iOS smartphone.
These details are still just rumored until Tim Cook and Co. make them official on stage, but these features could make sense for the next iPad mini. The original model was available in the same colors as the iPhone 5, and so Apple could very well decide to do the same again this year and extend the colors of the iPhone 5s to the iPad mini 2.
The same goes for Touch ID, as Apple would probably like to extend its fingerprint sensor tech to multiple iOS products and help to grow consumer interest and adoption in the feature rather than keeping it as an iPhone 5s exclusive forever. However, it's worth noting that the fact that the gold iPad mini 2 shown in these photos has raised concerns that they could just be high-quality renders rather than actual product photos.
What do you think of this latest round of iPad mini 2 leaks? Between the silver, gold and Space Gray shells that've leaked so far, which color do you think looks best on the iPad mini 2?
