Jason Mackenzie, HTC's President of Global Sales, said last month that his company was aiming to have the U.S. carrier-branded versions of the HTC One updated to Android 4.3 by the end of September. As I'm sure that many HTC One owners have noticed, the end of September is very nearly here, but those updates are not. Mackenzie took to his Twitter account today to provide an update on the situation, and while he did have some bad news to share, there's some good news mixed in as well.
Mackenzie revealed today that the Android 4.3 updates for the U.S. carrier-branded HTC One models won't be making it to users before September wraps. That's not entirely surprising considering that that there's only a few days left in the month, but it's nice to get confirmation from Mackenzie rather than being left in the dark.
The good news is that Mackenzie also said today that the updates are indeed still coming and that they're only expected to "slightly miss" the aforementioned end of September deadline. The exec went on to assure us that the U.S. carriers are being supportive during the update process and that he'll have more details to share next week.
Mackenzie's announcement is definitely a bit of a bummer for HTC One users in the U.S., especially considering that Android 4.3 has already begun rolling out to the international models and the HTC One Developer Edition. We frequently see updates for carrier-branded phones take longer than their unbranded counterparts, though, and at least owners of the U.S. HTC One models know that their own taste of Android 4.3 is getting close.
