Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC America, has been teasing the rollout of Android 4.3 for the HTC One since mid-August, promising that the update would begin hitting handsets before September was up. It looks like he wasn't kidding, as a bump up to Android 4.3 is now appearing on HTC One units in Taiwan.
Users in the XDA-developers forums as well as noted HTC leakster @LlabTooFeR report that a 512.22MB update to software version 3.18.709.2 is now making its way to the HTC One in Taiwan, bringing with it a bump up to Android 4.3 as well as a handful of other goodies. According to the changelog included with the update itself, those goodies include improvements to the camera's color contrasts in low light situations and the ability to add favorite soundtracks to video highlights.
While the Android 4.3 rollout appears to be limited to Taiwanese One models for now, Mackenzie has revealed that the Developer Edition HTC One should begin receiving the update this week. Meanwhile, Canadian versions of the One are expected to be updated by the end of September.
Mackenzie also says that HTC is still working to get its Android 4.3 update certified by the U.S. carriers and that, while there's no timetable for its release, more details will be announced soon. Finally, the exec revealed that the DROID DNA will be updated to Android 4.2.2 with the new Sense experience by the end of 2013.
So there's your update on HTC updates. It's nice to see that HTC One's Android 4.3 has officially started rolling out, and the good news is that the update isn't too far off for Dev Edition and Canadian owners. Obviously it's kind of a bummer that there's no release window for the U.S. versions of the One, but as we've seen many times before, carrier certification can make it difficult to predict when an update will be made available to consumers. Are you rocking an HTC One that's awaiting its Android 4.3 update? If so, which version of the One do you have?
