Nokia and Verizon have shown once before that they're not afraid to re-release an existing handset with a new coat of paint, and now it looks like the two could be digging out their palettes and brushes again.
Nokia's U.S. arm posted a gallery of "Torture Chamber" photos today that show off the lab where it tests the durability of its handsets before they're released. The images show shells from several existing models, including the Lumia 822 and 928. However, two of the photos include a glossy red Lumia 928 shell, lounging around like everything's normal.\
This actually isn't the first time that rumblings of a red Lumia 928 variant have popped up.
WPCentral recently discovered an entry for an "RM-860 VAR VRZ RED (059R227)" alongside entries for the black and white 928 inside of Nokia's NaviFirm firmware database.
Nokia is known for offering its Lumia Windows Phone devices in
several bright colors. However, the Lumia 928 has only been available in black and white
since its launch in May, a fact that I'm sure has disappointed more than a few Windows Phone fans on Verizon.
It's unclear if this red Lumia 928 will ever see the fluorescent light of a Verizon store, but considering that Nokia went to the trouble to create a red shell for torture testing and has even added an entry for the device in is NaviFirm database, it seems that the odds of a more colorful Lumia 928 joining Verizon's lineup are getting better. A larger version of the red Lumia 928 image can be found in the gallery below.
