Rumors of a Nokia tablet have been floating around for quite some time, and even company executives have teased just such a device. Another report this morning claims that the Finnish firm does indeed have a tablet in the works, and perhaps the best part of the rumor is that it says that the Windows-based slate may finally be getting close.
Sources speaking to The Verge say allege that Nokia is planning to introduce a Windows RT-powered tablet at an event on Sept. 26 in New York City. The slate is said to be codenamed "Vanquish" and include both a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 4G LTE connectivity. Like most of Nokia's other recent Windows hardware, the device is expected to be offered on AT&T.
That's not the only Nokia tablet leak we've got for you this morning, as a poster on Chinese forum Digi-Wo has posted what may be a Verizon variant of the device. The back of the slate contains Nokia, Windows RT and Verizon 4G LTE branding, and according to the original poster, the slate's got a 10.1-inch display. Whether or not the tablet is the real deal is a mystery for now, but The Verge notes that the design of the device lines up with a previously-leaked Nokia tablet with NVIDIA innards that has since been cancelled.
It feels as though we've seen a tablet from just about every mobile manufacturer under the sun, and so it's kind of surprising that it's taken Nokia this long to get a slate of its own on shelves. It sounds like that could change soon, though, and because Nokia is known for the design and build quality of its Lumia Windows Phone hardware, it'll be interesting to see what kind of tablet hardware Elop and Co. can crank out. Until we hear more, you can pass the time by ogling a close-up image of the red Nokia tablet's array of logos that's available below.
