It appears that smartwatches are one of the next big trends in mobile, with companies like Apple, Google, LG, Samsung and more all rumored to be working on intelligent wristwear. Most of the details on these smartwatches are still pretty light at this point, but according to a new report, Samsung could be planning to lift the veil on its device in less than a month.

Bloomberg claims that Samsung is planning to introduce a "wristwatch-like smartphone" called the Galaxy Gear on Sept. 4, the date on which it's holding its Unpacked 2013 Episode 2 event. The watch will reportedly be powered by Android, but one feature that it isn't expected to sport is a flexible display.

A Samsung executive confirmed the company's smartwatch plans earlier this year but declined to elaborate on any of the features that it might include. Today's report claims that the Galaxy Gear will be able to make phone calls, access the web and handle email. That makes it sound as though the device will have quite a bit of smartphone-like functionality, and while performing some of those actions on a watch may not be quite the same as carrying them out on a proper phone, having those features readily accessible on the wrist could be convenient.
