Grab your calendars, iOS fans, because it looks like we may now know the date on which Apple will unveil its next iPhone. Sources speaking to AllThingsD claim that the Cupertino firm is planning to hold an event to introduce the new iPhone on Sept. 10. No other details on the device or event are given, but the site does say that Apple also plans to launch the next version of Mac OS X, known as Mavericks, sometime in the coming weeks.
The rumor mill has suggested that Apple's next iPhone will follow in the footsteps of previous "S" model smartphones and sport a design that is largely similar to the iPhone 5. Some of the device's internals are expected to receive a bump, though, including an improved camera that may sport a dual-LED flash.
Several reports have also suggested that Apple is prepping a new, low-cost version of the iPhone with a plastic body. This unit would be targeted at the mid-range market segment, offering customers an iPhone 5-like experience in a device that would be easier on the wallet since it would trade the iPhone 5's aluminum and glass frame for one made of plastic. It's not yet clear if this oft-rumored affordable iPhone will debut at the Sept. 10 event, but with the next flagship iPhone expected to be shown off there, it's certainly possible that the low-cost sibling will be trotted out on stage as well.
